Modified Solid Coating Pan
Updated, modern designs of solid pans have a more angular pan mounted on a horizontal axis with openings in both the back and front to permit access.
The diagram below shows the method of operation of the GS Pellegrini (IMA, Italy) modified solid pan. Drying air is introduced via a duct on the rear wall of the pan. This air is then drawn through into the tablet bed by the exhaust air stream. Perforated exhaust immersion swords (sometimes also called ploughshares) are positioned within the tablet bed, close to the spray zone.
Immersion swords are responsible for:
- supplying the drying air and exhaust for removal of dust and solvents from the coating fluid.
