In the development of a solid oral dosage form, the choice of the core excipients is extremely important. Several aspects of the finished dosage form must be considered such as the nature of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), the intended delivery method of the API (immediate or modified release), and the manufacturing process. If the finished dosage form is a tablet, the core must be able to withstand additional processing steps such as film coating and packaging. Excipients used for capsule filling must be free flowing and cohesive enough to form plugs at low compression forces. Colorcon® offers both products and technical guidance for solid dose development.
Colorcon manufactures a range of immediate release core excipients for pharmaceutical tablets and capsules. Our versatile products provide important functionality including binding, disintegration, and lubrication. Through our global Controlled Release Alliance with Dow Wolff Cellulosics, we offer a portfolio of extended/controlled release products. Our product line also includes SureSpheres®, drug layering substrates, for the production of sustained release or time release formulations.
Colorcon also has a world wide network of technical service laboratories staffed with formulation experts and state-of-the-art processing and testing equipment to assist you with the development of your solid oral dosage form.
