Hypromellose (HPMC) is one of the most widely used polymers for matrix tablet formulations and Colorcon® has more than 25 years of experience working with HPMC. By leveraging our vast historical formulation data, we’ve developed the HyperStart Oral Solid Dose Formulation Service to help pharmaceutical formulators save valuable time and resources. HyperStart is specially designed to provide customers with a starting formulation for hydrophilic matrix tablets, using Hypromellose (HPMC). By reducing the time spent on initial formulation, the development process will be shortened, getting your product to market faster.
Formulating Hypromellose (HPMC) Matrices
Formulating HPMC matrices can be a complex process; critical factors being drug solubility and dosage level, the rate controlling polymer and excipient choice. Using Predictive Modeling, based on Design of Experiment (DoE) methodology, formulation resources offered by Colorcon simplify your development process and reduce the time for initial formulation.
By concentrating on the most important factors which impact the rate of drug release, HyperStart successfully provides a start-up matrix formulation using METHOCEL™ Premium Cellulose Ethers. There may be other variables involved in the release rate of specific actives, and corrective algorithms can be applied to any formulation that does not meet the target release profile, with fine tuning to reach the desired result.
Formulations provided by Colorcon are intended to be for direct compression, but some formulations may require granulation. All formulations are primarily designed for 100% release at 12 hours; however formulations requiring other rates of release can also be developed for you.
In addition to the HyperStart service, Colorcon has an extensive library of Methocel™ Premium Cellulose Ethers applications data representing drugs with a broad spectrum of dose and solubility.
