Enteric/Delayed Release Coatings

Colorcon® is a global supplier of fully-formulated systems for enteric/delayed release coating applications. We offer a range of organic and aqueous options for the manufacture of enteric coated tablets or multi-particulates, combined with the expertise and infrastructure to support your every step of development – from initial technology development through final commercialization and product delivery.

Enteric/delayed release coatings consist of pH sensitive polymers, which means the coating remains intact in the acidic environment of the stomach and then solubilizes in the more alkaline environment of the small intestine. Enteric protection for solid oral dosage forms is required to prevent gastric mucosal irritation, to protect a drug which is unstable in gastric fluids or to delay release for local delivery in the intestine. Colorcon’s coating systems are based on a range of enteric polymers to suit the needs of the pharmaceutical formulator.

Colorcon enteric/delayed release products are compatible with a broad range of active drug substances in several therapeutic categories, including low and high dose drugs, water soluble or insoluble drugs and drugs with a short half-life or a narrow therapeutic window.

Use of our fully-formulated technologies can help you deliver a final product that saves you development, scale-up and production time while assuring the integrity of the enteric/delayed release coating to the safety and efficacy of your finished dosage form.

Acryl-EZE® Aqueous Acrylic Enteric System
A fully formulated, one-step, dry acrylic enteric coating system dispersible in water for the application of an enteric/delayed release coating to solid dosage forms such as beads, tablets and granules. By combining the benefits of a fully formulated coating system, and a globally accepted enteric polymer (methacrylic acid co-polymer type C), Acryl-EZE is the first choice for new formulation development.

Sureteric® Aqueous Enteric Coating System
An alternative aqueous system. The Sureteric system is a specially blended combination of Polyvinyl Acetate Phthalate (PVAP, Phthalavin® Enteric Coating Polymer), plasticizers, and other ingredients. Based on the Phthalavin chemistry, Sureteric is the choice in cases where the active pharmaceutical ingredient is incompatible with acrylic polymers.

Opadry® Enteric Coating System
Formulated for organic solvent coating, the Opadry Enteric system is based on Phthalavin (PVAP, Phthalavin) polymer technology and can be used with highly moisture sensitive materials. Combining enteric polymer, pigments, plasticizer and other ingredients, Opadry Enteric is the first choice for organic solvent processing.

Nutrateric® Nutritional Enteric Coating System
An easy-to-use and reliable one-step aqueous enteric/delayed release coating system specifically designed and approved for use in dietary supplement applications.
