Intestinal Release
|
 |
The goal of intestinal release is to prevent the release of drug for a period of time, followed by rapid and complete release of the drug at a site in the distal portion of the gastro-intestinal tract. Examples where intestinal release profiles are useful are the localized treatment of topical disease in the colon, or bulk delivery of a drug to an absorption window in the distal portion of the small intestine. Such a release profile can be achieved through coating of multi-particulates or tablets with pH-dependent coating polymers.
