Ascending Release
|
 |
Ascending drug release profiles are characterized by an initial slow rate of drug release, followed by an increase in the rate for the latter stages of drug release. The primary drivers for the need to deliver a drug in such a manner exists where there is a localized target for drug delivery, for chronotherapeutic delivery where faster drug release at night-time results in high concentration of drug for early morning therapeutic treatment e.g., anti-inflammatory analgesia for arthritis, asthma and early morning cardio-protection. Or this may just be a strategy to compensate for low absorption of some drug in the distal intestine.
